9-12-09 Langley to Whitney : 0-12-09 RIchard, Mike, and I started at Horseshoe Meadow at 2 am, summited Mt Langley, then went down Langley's west gully to Miter Basin. We passed Skyblue Lake up to Crabtree Pass, down to Crabtree Lake, then up the infamous sand slog to Discovery Pinnacle. Then we tagged Mt Muir and Mt Whitney before descending the MR to the Portal. We had planned to get Mt Russell as well, but weather and fatigue got the best of us. Approx stats: 15 hours, 22 miles, and 9k total elevation gain. 3 fourteeners

8-1-09 Whitney (x 31) from Lone Pine : Richard Piotrowski, Mike Mellin, and I did a crazy hike from the Hostel in downtown Lone Pine to the summit of Whitney via the MR. We left the Hostel at midnight, trudged up the road to the portal, took a power nap, then we went up the MR. We summited at 10:20 and then returned to the Portal via the main trail. All told about a 28 mile day with 11k of elevation gain. Thanks to Richard and Mike for doing it and thanks to Doug for the hospitality and the lift back to Lone Pine after the adventure. My 31st summit of Whitney.

7-19-09 Whitney X 30 MR in 3:40 : Tom, Lisa, Alice, Rachel, and I went up the MR to meet Karen as she exited after completing the John Muir Trail (Congrats Karen!). Raphael went up the main trail from lone pine campground to round out the group. We left the TH at 4:00. I decided to push on up to see how I would do if I pushed it. I summitted at 7:40. I set a new personal record of 3 hours, 40 minutes on the MR. This was my 30th summit of Whitney.

7-12-09 Ranboze' Whitney Hike : I hadn't planned to summit Whitney again this week, but when I got a request from Robin to take her up the MR I gladly accepted. This was her 6th summit of Whitney and her 50th summit of the year (8 weeks early woo hoo!) This was # 29 on Whitney for me. Great job Robin, awesome day on the mountain.

Yosemite 6-27/28/29-09 : Sierragator, Alice, Tom Cat, Lisa, Nathan, and Mathew met at Yosemite to see Karen off on her solo John Muir Trail backpack. On Saturday Nathan and I did Mt Dana and Lembert Dome while Karen did prep work. The group had a nice dinner at Tuolumne Meadows Lodge. On Sunday we opted for North Dome on the way down to Yosemite Valley. After a night among the savages at the village, we hiked up to Half Dome. After that we saw Karen off on her journey.

It was my 27th, Tom cat's 26th, Karen's 2nd, and Lisa's first (congrats to Lisa on her first Whitney ascent). Definitely needed the ice axes and crampons for the final 400. Sierragator: the early years : A retrospective on my fascination with the sierra and mountains in general. When I was 8 I told my mother I wanted to climb a mountain. The closest mountain she could find to Gainesville, FL was Stone Mountain, GA., so that was my first "peak". The upper part of the first pic in the album is me on top of Stone Mountain (the other is me years later on white mtn). The other pics are from my first backpacking trip in the Sierra in 1979 and the second in 1981. Hard to believe we wore jeans and slept in tube tents back then. Great times though and it was a life changing event for me as I became acquainted with the Sierra it was love at first sight. I am thrilled to call the Sierra my home 30 years later. The pic quality isn't the best, but the memories are for a lifetime. I'll add more as I get around to it

4-11-09 Iceberg lake/4-12-09 bald eagle peak : Sierragator, Tomcat,and Moosetracks were joined by Gigamike and Richard for a Whitney attempt. Tough sledding through the new snow. Sierragator and Tomcat bailed just above Iceberg lake as the snow conditions made it obvious that it would be a LOOOOONG day. Sierragator and Christine bag Trail pk and Cirque pk 8/10-11 2007 : Christine's first trip to the sierra. Bagged Trail Pk (11,632) on 8-10, spent the night at horseshoe meadow. On the 11th we summited Cirque peak(12,900) via a 15 mile loop up New Army pass, then south along the ridgeline to CIrque, then back to Horseshoe meadow cross country and down the meadows. Great weekend on the mountain!

6-22-07 Whitney mountaineer's route, Muir, Discovery pinnacle : I had intended to bag 9 summits over the weekend, but a sore throat/cough cut that short. Did manage to get my 21st ascent of Whitney, along with Mt Muir, and Discovery Pinnacle, before bailing out on Mt Hitchcock to go get a classic portal burger and a beer.
